Future is S&OP but you ask question but don’t answer ?
“When it comes to S&OP, we know we’re missing something but don’t fully understand what that something is yet.”

The answer to your quandary is the lack of data synchronization across financial entities. If this is addressed then decentralized S&OP can be enabled and S&OP that rolls up to larger entities to share resources. Today we have millions of entities with deep “water well” of data but no rivers and streams of bi-direction data on flows of capacity, materials, resources.

We at DCRA Inc. have addressed these issues and are scaling major decentralized technologies to enable http://www.DCRAsolutions.com
