I believe Sales can be engaged in the S &OP process by having a common supply chain target like annual $ target or days of inventory.

Another point is that I don’t think we have done a good job of educating sales people as to what demand planning / S&OP are supposed to achieve. Forecasts need to be seen as requests for product, and the goal of planning should be to make the demand “forecastable”. Reviewing past forecast performance should be done carefully, as it’s easy to draw the wrong conclusions from the data.
